Toronto’s stingier defense gives the 3-2 Raptors a path against the 4-2 Lakers—if they can contain Luka Doncic.

The Lakers enter 4-2 and No. 10 in the power index, just ahead of Toronto at 3-2 and No. 12, but the Raptors have a +53 point differential through five games compared with L.A.’s +31 in six. Toronto’s clearest edge is at the defensive end: it allows 106.2 points per game, versus 113.3 for the Lakers, while averaging 116.8 points to L.A.’s 118.5. Luka Doncic has scored 181 points in five games, but his 26 turnovers give Scottie Barnes—who has 120 points and 11 steals—a pressure point to exploit. With Kawhi Leonard out, Toronto will lean more heavily on Barnes, RJ Barrett (97 points) and Immanuel Quickley (30 assists); containing Doncic while sustaining its defensive edge could decide this early-season test.
